The past weeks Apple Inc. has accelerated plans to move some of its production outside of China, long the dominant country in the supply chain that has built the world’s most valuable company, people involved in the discussions say. It urges suppliers to more actively plan for assembly of Apple products elsewhere in Asia, especially India and Vietnam, they say, and to reduce reliance on Taiwanese assemblers led by Foxconn Technology group. Unrest in a place called iPhone City helped propel Apple’s shift. In the giant city-within-a-city in Zhengzhou, China, as many as 300,000 workers work in a factory run by Foxconn to make iPhones and other Apple products. At one point, it made up about 85% of the Pro lineup of iPhones alone, according to market research firm Counterpoint Research.
