Apple iPhone Ban Being Sought By Qualcomm - News Summed Up

Apple iPhone Ban Being Sought By Qualcomm

There are two kinds of iPhone on sale, those which use Qualcomm chips and those which instead have Intel SoCs. You can check this by model numbers as detailed here by Forbes' Aaron Tilley, but in summary model A1660 and A1661 are Qualcomm chips while A1778 and A1784 are Intel-powered. The end goal is to claim royalties on the six patents that Qualcomm feels are being infringed upon. Apple previously told The Register that "Qualcomm has unfairly insisted on charging royalties for technologies they have nothing to do with". Prior to 2016 Apple had a five-year exclusivity deal with Qualcomm that stopped it using any other company's baseband chips.
