A new report out of Taiwan this week claims Apple is preparing to further expand its already strong processor chip design capabilities, in an effort to become less reliant on external silicon partners like Intel and Qualcomm. As analyst Mark Li from Hong Kong's Sanford C. Berstein also notes "by designing its own chips, Apple can better differentiate itself from others. Further, depending too much on other chip suppliers in the age of artificial intelligence will deter its development." It's obvious, as computing architectures become more powerful and more complex, Apple wants to continue to bring more of its own internal design expertise to bear. But more importantly, its clear the company wants to be more a master of its own destiny than ever before.
