Appeal board upholds Labor Day march ban

Carol Ng, left second, and Lee Cheuk-yan, left third. The Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions has today upheld the police decision to ban Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions' Labor Day march on Friday due to social distancing measures. Labour Party vice-chairman, Lee Cheuk-yan, said the Public Order Ordinance only allows the police commissioner to oppose protests in the interests of national security or public safety, and excludes public health reasons. CTU chairwoman Carol Ng Man-yee said there is no need to despair and believes that Hong Kong people are full of wisdom and can express demands together at 5:01pm that day. She said people can chant slogans anywhere, raise "five plus one" fingers on the streets, or expressed demands through phone messages.
