Apartment owners face €4m bill over fire safety defects

Homeowners in a Co Clare development in which major fire safety defects were found last year have been told they will have to pay €4m to remedy them. Investigations at the 240-unit Brú Na Sionna development in Shannon have discovered a much bigger problem with more exploratory work required to determine the final cost. One apartment owner, John O’Brien, said there is no trust now in the whole process. Last year, Mr Kelly agreed with the company on a programme of redress that would attempt to eliminate any fire safety concerns. “In the interim there are safeguards in place to allow occupiers to remain in their apartments while the works are progressing.”
