Against the backdrop of the decision by the Lagos State government to institute a joint security task force, investigations have revealed that some law enforcement personnel are taking advantage of their new status to extort desperate port users. Speaking to Nigerian Tribune, a trailer driver, Sanusi Ahmed said once its night, the “real owners of the port” emerge. According to Sanusi, “At night, some trailers and tankers drive through the one way into the ports. The members led by this same task force that were asked to monitor and control us during the day. Here in Apapa, once its night and Lagos is asleep, anything happens.”There are concerns that the unsavoury traffic situation has turned out to favour some security officials.
