PUTRAJAYA: Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Alihas withdrawn his appeal in relation to the committal proceedings against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng for allegedly issuing statements on his ongoing graft charge.Court of Appeal judge Justice Abdul Rahman Sebli struck out the appeal on Friday (June 1) after Senior Federal Counsel Maisarah Juhari told the court that they had withdrawn the appeal.SFC Maisarah, who is acting for Mohamed Apandi, said they filed notice of discontinuance of the appeal on Thursday (May 31) and served it to Lim's lawyer Melvyn Lai on the same day.She later asked for no order as to costs.The other two judges on the panel were Justices Zaleha Yusof and Yaacob Md Sam.On Sept 21, 2016, the Attorney-General obtained leave from the High Court to initiate committal proceedings against Lim.Lim then filed an application to set aside the Attorney-General's application for committal proceedings against him which was granted by the High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) on Dec 6 last year.The then High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Justice Kamaludin Md Said, who is now a Court of Appeal judge, had allowed Lim's application on the grounds that Mohamed Apandi did not give proper disclosure on a transcript of a press conference by Lim in a matter where he was the defendant.The Attorney-General sought to have Lim jailed for contempt for allegedly issuing statements detrimental to the administration of justice, and for questioning the courts' dignity and integrity.Lim's alleged comments stemmed from corruption charges relating to the purchase of a bungalow below market price.
