Christel Yardley/Stuff Rahui Papa says the Kīngitanga respects all stories from different iwi, but believes Aotearoa reflects the Māori name for New Zealand. Joseph Johnson/Stuff Iwi histories will remain strong as long as they continue to be shared. “This is an opportunity for Aotearoa New Zealand society to come to that themselves. “And if Aotearoa doesn’t come to be in my generation or the next, Ngāpuhi will always call this land Aotearoa.”
