Anwar: Fuel supply stable, but risks loom if conflict drags on

Bernama picKOTA TINGGI: Petrol and diesel supplies in Malaysia remain stable despite global geopolitical tensions and supply chain pressures, but the prime minister has warned of potential long-term impacts. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could be felt nationwide if the situation persists for another one to two months. Anwar said the government is currently absorbing the impact of rising global oil prices through subsidies, but this would be unsustainable if the conflict is prolonged. Anwar clarified that although Malaysia is an oil producer, it still imports about 50 per cent of its supply, leaving it vulnerable to global price fluctuations. "The government will continue to monitor developments and take necessary steps to ensure fuel supplies remain stable and prices stay controlled for as long as possible."
