Antiquities Ministry to develop Salamlek Palace

Mohamed Metwally, Director General of Alexandria and North Coast Antiquities, announced the final approval by the Standing Committee for Antiquities to restore and develop Salamek Palace in Montazah gardens, east of Alexandria, and to turn it into a historic hotel. Metwally told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the committee issued three approvals for the project submitted by Al-Montazah Investment and Tourism Company, affiliated to the Ministry of Tourism. The committee issued approval of the project in principle in late 2015. This was followed by the final approval of the project on August 27 after reviewing the maps and drawings of the project and the company was notified of the final approval so that the restoration can begin, according to Metwally. The Antiquities Ministry stipulated that the company should not do any harm to the historical decoration and important architectural items of the palace, Matwally added.
