ArkemaKHOU-TV in Houston is reporting at 4:38 am CDT (5:38 am EDT) that two explosions have been confirmed at the flooded Arkema chemical plant in Crosby, Texas. The plant manufactures chemicals called organic liquid peroxides that can ignite and explode at ambient temperatures. More explosions are anticipated and residents who are evacuated should not attempt to return until given the word by public officials. What are liquid organic peroxides? The Crosby plant has 57 employees and manufactures liquid organic peroxides that are used to produce plastic resins, polystyrene, polypropylene, PVC, polyester-reinforced fiberglass, and acrylic resins.
