Police would today determine whether this was a violation of the Computer Crimes Act, Pol Maj Gen Somprasong added. Political activist Piyarat Chongthep, who tore up a referendum ballot at a polling booth in Bang Na district on Sunday, has been slapped with four charges, Pol Maj Gen Somprasong Yenthuam, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 5, said on Monday. The four charges are: destroying a ballot and obstructing the referendum, under the Referendum Act, and damaging an official document and destroying state property, under the Criminal Code. Two of his companions, one of them caught taking a video of the offence, had been charged with obstructing the referendum. Pol Maj Gen Somprasong Yenthuam, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 5, said since the suspect confessed to the charges and made no attempt to escape, he was released on bail on Sunday night.
