Social cohesion will be undermined if the authorities do not stand up to protests by “religious mobs”, a government adviser said last night. Dame Sara Khan was speaking after a film about Islamic history was pulled from cinemas following protests. Khan, the independent adviser on social cohesion and resilience, said local and central government had not shown enough leadership in defending democratic values. She added that “intimidation and fear” were being used by groups trying to stop legal activities. Sponsored“I have seen how local authorities and MPs have tried to appease religious mobs or sit on the fence in the hope that such protests will disperse and often they have in the short-term,” Khan told The Daily Telegraph.
