(CNN) Anthony Weiner has been released from federal prison and is serving out the rest of his sentence in a halfway house, records show. The former Democratic congressman from New York was originally sentenced in 2017 to 21 months in prison for sexting with a minor. Weiner served about 15 months in the Federal Medical Center in Devens, Massachusetts, until he was transferred to a residential re-entry center in Brooklyn, New York, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website. The Bureau of Prisons says residential re-entry centers are designed to reduce the chances that inmates will relapse into criminal behavior and are intended to provide assistance to inmates nearing release. CNN has reached out to the Brooklyn facility where Weiner was transferred but they declined to comment.
