Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) has claimed that its Panchhari upazila unit President Jewel Chakma was picked up by some army personnel Saturday night. Panchhari police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Jabbar acknowledged Jewel’s detention, and said that the army were conducting drives in different areas with him. The detention came amid protests over the death of Romel Chakma, PCP’s Naniarchar unit general secretary in Rangamati, on April 19. However, sources at the police station confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that Jewel had been handed over to them around 6:15pm.
