At first, the international community thought Ethiopia had a chance to become a democracy with Abiy Ahmed as a leader. Soon after he took office, Abiy Ahmed’s government began evicting and killing Amhara people who had lived in the Oromia region for forty years. Abiy Ahmed often says, “We work for one Ethiopia,” but his actions show something different. Abiy Ahmed initially gained support by talking about “Ethiopia,” which was important after the TPLF’s 27-year rule. Despite this, Abiy Ahmed continues to deceive the international community.
