Crime & Punishment of Wednesday, 2 May 2018Source: citinewsroom.comAnkaful Prison officer jailed 13-years for possessing narcoticsMaxium security prison-AnkafulA Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced a prison officer of the Ankaful Main Camp Prison, Second Class Officer Abibula Nankpa, to Thirteen [13] years in prison in hard labour for possession of narcotic drugs. The officer, who was arrested by guards of the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in August 2016, as he attempted to throw some substances believed to be Indian hemp to inmates, was finally found guilty of the crime on Monday, April 30 this 2018. He has since commenced his imprisonment at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison, and is also set to be dismissed by the Ghana Prisons Service. He noted the number of guards placed at different points at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison coupled with the arrest and conviction of their own officer, is a reminder to the public that they will not spare any offender. The Ghana Prisons Service, according to the PRO, is taking all necessary steps to cleanse itself of “such recalcitrant officers to at least have a near-perfect” security system at the Ankaful Main Camp Prison and the Maximum Security Prison.
