Anifah calls for renewed political commitment among D-8 members - Nation

PETALING JAYA: Members of the Group of Eight Developing Islamic Countries (D-8) need to revisit and renew their political commitment to the organisation as it marks its 20th anniversary this year, said Datuk Seri Anifah Aman. He also drew attention to the declining number of D-8 events and initiatives from member states," said Anifah ahead of the ninth Summit of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation. In its D-8 Economic Outlook 2016/2017, the OIC Statistical, Economic, Social Research and Training Centre (SESRIC) recorded that intra-trade among D-8 countries was US$100bil (RM422bil) from 2013 to 2015. Two outcome documents, namely the Istanbul Declaration and the D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action, will be considered by the countries' leaders at the summit on Friday (Oct 20). Anifah also welcomed Turkey as the incoming chair of the D-8, and introduced Datuk Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari as the incoming D-8 secretary-general.
