Even after Anglo American forced BHP's hand to abandon a takeover bid, the Australian giant may yet make a comeback. BHP had to make a firm offer for Anglo American on Wednesday late afternoon, and its request for an extension earlier in the day was rebuffed. Unwilling to launch a hostile bid, without the support of Anglo management and key shareholders, BHP then confirmed that it won't pursue its proposed deal for now.
