PHNOM PENH: FIVE out of 14 elephants at the Angkor resort were moved from the Angkor elephant community to a natural habitat recently. A spokesman from the Apsara National Authority, Long Kosal, said the elephants were a huge attraction at the Angkor resort and used as a mode of transport for tourists. “We want to stop using elephants as a mode of transport for tourists by early next year. Angkor elephant association general manager Un Kiri said that the new location had a biodiverse environment of natural forests and streams. “From the 14 elephants at the Angkor elephant association, two are bull elephants aged between 30 and 60 years old,” he said.
