Gun City Sockburn, due to open early next month, is one kilometre from Riccarton Racecourse where the first gun buyback took place at the weekend, and directly across from schools and houses. Ms Broughton said Sockburn is a better location than the last Riccarton store which closed some years ago. The last place [Gun City] had was close behind a Work and Income office and close to a fish shop which was very popular with local people," she said. Police said they are still confirming future firearm collection locations for the Christchurch metropolitan area, but would not anticipate any issues with any future Gun City sites.
