Up here, people are wary of southern show-offs telling us how many press-ups they can do. Without drastic action, the 2020s in the North will be worse than the 1980s. Let’s reward the essential workers we’ve clapped with a real living wage and look at a universal basic income. Let’s fix council budgets, build zero-carbon council homes and provide the same public transport as London. The North needs to see action – now.
