Justice Andrew Cheung Kui-nung will succeed Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma Tao-li who is heading into retierement, the Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheg Yuet-ngor announced. Justice Ma earlier announced he would step down when he turns 65 on January 11 next year, RTHK reports. Andrew Cheung was appointed as a permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal in October 2018. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong and Harvard Law School, Justice Cheung is a specialist in judicial reviews and has ruled in a number of high-profile cases relating to constitutional and human rights. His appointment needs to be endorsed by Legco.
