A proposal to incentivise the students by giving them free smart phones was mooted at the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here today. Apart from digital literacy, students would also be involved in water conservation, tree plantation and Swachh Andhra Pradesh programmes as well. Only recently Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had also announced it plan to give out free smartphones to UP residents. Although, according to reports, anyone in UP who is older than 18 will be able to register to receive the free smartphones, the device will be delivered only after January 1, 2017.
