Anambra govt inaugurates Reading hubs in Communities


The second phase of a programme aimed at enhancing literacy and improving reading culture in Anambra State was recently unveiled by Governor Willie Obiano. It featured distribution of books to both public and private schools including higher institutions of learning, community libraries and reading hubs. In an interview the chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Mrs Ify Okaro, and Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Patrick Ugboaja, promised to ensure that the platform created to enhance reading culture remains aglow. In their separate reactions, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Readers Association of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Onukaogu and State Chairman Association of Private Schools Owners, Mr Solomon Nwanonyuo commended the state government’s commitment to enhancing literacy and improving reading culture in the State and called for its sustenance. Over one million books were distributed to community libraries, public schools, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Teaching Hospitals, Private and Mission schools, while Laptops were given to Education management Information System officers in the twenty one local government areas of the State during the ceremony.
