MEA Risk LLC – 29 January 2020: There has been a dangerous escalation of security risks and instability in the Maghreb and Sahel region since the start of 2020. It also sent drones and fighter jets in support of Haftar’s forces. Flight trackers have notably detected a sharp increase in flights originating from the United Arab Emirates to areas controlled by Haftar’s forces. The UAE now is focusing on building the base, with a UAE military delegation visiting Mauritania on 25 January 2020 to discuss the implementation phase. Without a major retraction from these regional powers, the region is region is bracing for an unprecedented year of upheaval.
