ANALYSIS: When a new climate change policy proposal is announced, it's hard to know what an ideal response should look like. It was the option favoured by the Interim Climate Change Committee (ICCC), and immediately welcomed by the major farming groups, as well as cautious approval from several environmental groups. While Tuesday's political battle may be over, the war continues, and it's unclear if Tuesday's unusual coalition will remain intact. This would essentially mean the farming sector would be responsible for the same proportion of emissions it is now by 2050. While farmers may be on-board with pricing their emissions proposals, the proposed methane targets may prove to be a step too far.
