Sadly, some of these illegal dumpsites are located next to rivers and waterways, which are sometimes our sources of drinking water. To-date, culprits behind seven cases of illegal dumping had been taken to court and fined, with one jailed for a year. The reader said he had reported the matter to various departments including the Department of Environment (DoE) and Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) but that so far no action had been taken. The time has come for the authorities to crack the whip and do more to stop litterbugs and illegal dumping.
