The 2018 Budget, which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last month, not only focuses on development and the country’s future, but also committed to ensure the people’s wellbeing. Themed, “Prospering An Inclusive Economy, Balancing Between Worldly And Hereafter, For The Wellbeing Of Rakyat, Towards National Transformation 2050 (TN50) Aspiration,” the 2018 Budget - with an allocation of RM280.25 billion - prioritised in turning Malaysia into a progressive and developed country based on the Maqasid Syariah principle. Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Irwan Serigar Abdullah described Budget 2018 as an inclusive and comprehensive budget, for all levels of society, especially B40 and M40 who will be benefitting from it. “The government had also reintroduced Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) as KR1M2.0, starting with 50 outlets next year and expanded in the next three years. “Through all the programmes and initiatives outlined in Budget 2018, the government hopes to raise the people’s standard of living towards TN50 and achieving a developed nation status by 2020 and ensuring the distribution of wealth to all citizens,” he said.
