KUALA LUMPUR: Mention Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and the late Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman’s name springs to mind. The country’s first Royal Malaysian Air Force chief, Air-Vice-Marshal (Rtd) Tan Sri Sulaiman Sujak, served as MAS deputy chairman when Aziz was its managing director. Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, in a Kota Baru district officer’s uniform, with his wife, Puan Sri Wan Zakiah Ibrahim, in 1960. “Aziz was a true Malaysian, an icon of the country, an outstanding civil servant and a close and loyal friend to many of us. In 1992, Aziz was instrumental in rewriting the British chartered Civil Aviation Regulations 1952 for the Department of Civil Aviation (now Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia), that was later gazetted in 1996.
