Raza played an important role in contemporary Indian art and has created an army of brilliant young artists who will take his legacy forward. Now that he is not with us, I feel this is the end of era, but he has left so many memories. I had the opportunity and privilege of spending time with Raza at his studio and home in Paris. He was so deeply connected to art that whenever he spoke, everything revolved around art, colours and he was always asking about others' work and guiding them. Being a self-taught artist, it was he who gave me guidance, and later an award from his foundation, which works for the recognition and promotion of young artists' work.
