An early Christmas present: Penticton, B.C., teen cast as Nutcracker


A Penticton, B.C., teen has lived a Christmas dream after getting cast as The Nutcracker, in a ballet that toured across the Okanagan Valley. Sixteen-year-old Aleksander Filipovic could hardly contain his excitement when he got the news that he was chosen to be the Nutcracker Prince, in a ballet put on by the Mission Dance Centre Company in Kelowna, B.C. (RMC Photoworks, Mission Dance Centre & Company )After a successful audition in October, the teen began rehearsing choreography two days a week, and for the dancer that meant learning some new skills. (Mission Dance Centre & Company/ Facebook )After several weeks of intense rehearsals, the ballet company hit the road in December to bring the magic of The Nutcracker to Vernon, Penticton and Kelowna. After several sold-out performances, the young dancer has his sights set on being a professional dancer one day to continue to share his love of performing with the audience.
