An adoptive mom was charged with abusing her Ethiopian son. Kyle Wohlers, Getahun’s adoptive mother, was charged with second-degree criminal mistreatment in 2021. Getahun told investigators that Wohlers beat him on multiple occasions and forced him to sleep outside as punishment. A school administrator told Peter that she had heard Willis call Getahun an anti-Black slur at the grocery store. “My husband and I would really love to adopt someday,” she told Wohlers.
