“There is no question that Orlando’s gay scene is fueled by Disney World,” said Eddie Shapiro, co-author of Queens in the Kingdom, a 2007 gay guide to Disney parks. Gay Days has never been officially sanctioned by Disney, and was accompanied by overt uneasiness when it began in 1992. “I can’t imagine any other reason gays would visit Orlando,” he said. And in 2013, Walt Disney World got its first gay president in George Kalogridis. A Disney gay epiphany is apparently not uncommon.
