The Ardsley club has nearly 200 members, including recreational and novice curlers, as well as serious competitors like Martin Sather, who has competed on national championship teams. Mr. Austin, a 76-year-old veteran curler, served as the skip on a four-man team facing the Scots. On the ice, the Scottish team was giving the Ardsley team fits. (The Scottish team has several more matches left in the competition.) Traditionally, the Scottish team appoints one player as a judge during the tour to adjudicate petty behavioral and etiquette offenses.
