I always stay in a riad in the medina; these are old townhouses, with rooms built around a central courtyard. Marrakech comes across in the book as a very frenetic city. It is chaotic, but the joy of Marrakech is that there are plenty of ways to step out of the madness when you want to. Roof terrace bars are a great option – I love Kosybar above the Place des Ferblantiers; great cocktails and a really chilled-out vibe. If I’m feeling feisty, I’ll go into the souks and barter, but the great thing is that these days there are plenty of places to shop where you don’t have to haggle.
