Multiple allegations have been made against 40 monks and teachers spanning the past 60 years at the Catholic school in Yorkshire ALAMYAmpleforth College has been stripped of its safeguarding powers over concerns about its handling of child abuse allegations. The Charity Commission announced yesterday that an external troubleshooter would take control of key responsibilities for pupil welfare at the Roman Catholic school and its prep school. Its decision to intervene was triggered by “continued concerns about the extent to which current safeguarding risks to pupils at the schools are being adequately managed”. The charities regulator launched an inquiry into the running of the North Yorkshire school in 2016 after The Times revealed the cover-up of alleged sexual abuse by a teacher.
