Amit Shah likely to play role of NDA convener too

NEW DELHI: Unlike the previous NDA regime under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee where allies could throw their weight around, the current BJP led by Amit Shah is running the ruling coalition almost on its own steam, leaving a limited role for partners.Sources said Shah was likely to play the role of NDA convener too. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah were not in favour of Sharad Yadav being given a Cabinet berth. “Our ties with TDP are strong and we are good allies,” a senior BJP leader said.BJP has had strained relations with long-time ally Shiv Sena since Bal Thackeray’s death, but the ties continue. Now that party is with us for the sake of sharing power,” a BJP leader said. With BJP being a junior partner in Punjab, SAD plays big brother and the saffron party has followed it.“As for PDP, our alliance with Mehbooba Mufti is on,” a BJP leader said.
