ADDIS ABABA – Top officials of neighboring Amhara and Tigray regions vowed to mend their fractured relations as part of an ongoing push towards peace and reconciliation in northern Ethiopia. Tigray Interim President Getachew Reda on Sunday traveled to Bahir Dar, where he held discussions with Amhara region’s President Yilikal Kefyale (PhD). The visit was the first by a high-ranking official from Tigray since the war between the government and Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces ended with a truce last November. During the discussions involving residents of Bahir Dar, Getachew said the political determination that brought the war to its conclusion has opened a new chapter to restore the relations of the two regions. The people of the Amhara region stand ready to make the peace sustainable, he added.
