American will add 1,216 trans-Atlantic flights this summer, nearly twice as many as Delta and United combined, according to Luton, England-based OAG, a provider of air travel information and applications. On March 30, American converted its JFK trans-Atlantic operation to all Boeing 777s. Besides London Heathrow, with four daily departures on American metal, American’s JFK Boeing 777 destinations – each with one daily departure -- include Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Rome (summer only). Besides Chicago-Athens, new American trans-Atlantic flights this summer include Philadelphia to Bologna, Berlin, Dubrovnik, Dallas to Dublin and Munich and Charlotte to Munich. John Grant, OAG senior analyst, said American operates 866 daily flights to Dallas and 678 daily flights to Charlotte, compared with 397 to Philadelphia.
