America’s secret role in the Rwandan genocide

The Rwandan Hutu génocidaires, as the people who killed during the genocide were known, were also motivated by irrational beliefs and prejudices, but the powder keg contained another important ingredient: terror. After Idi Amin overthrew Obote in 1971, many Rwandan Tutsis moved out of the border refugee camps. A few days later, he dropped in on a Rwandan Tutsi colonel in Uganda’s army, named Stephen Ndugute. The Rwandan army, with help from French and Zairean commandos, stopped their advance and the rebels retreated back into Uganda. The authors used ballistic and acoustic evidence to argue that the missiles were probably fired by the Rwandan army from Kanombe military barracks.
