Amazon sets own lobbying record as it vies for Pentagon cloud - Tech News


Amazon became the top spender among American technology companies in the quarter as Google’s lobbying outlay dropped to US$3.4mil (RM14.04mil) from US$5mil (RM20.65mil) a year earlier. Amazon topped its previous company quarterly record from the last quarter of 2018, when it spent US$3.7mil (RM15.28mil). Cloud competitionFour tech giants involved in the Pentagon’s winner-take-all competition for cloud services all increased lobbying spending significantly in the first three months. Amazon and Google disclosed lobbying on antitrust or competition, although the filings don’t always detail companies’ exact positions on the issues. The first quarter decrease in spending belied Boeing’s longer-term trend in lobbying outlays.
