The announcement by Amazon comes as President-elect Donald Trump has directed a series of angry tweets at companies that have moved jobs overseas or are opening new plants abroad. Perhaps in response, many in corporate America have begun to trumpet their commitment to creating jobs in the United States. However, other big-name retailers already employ fewer workers than Amazon, and this move will only widen that gap. Amazon has recently managed to deliver a string of quarterly profits in large part thanks to its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services. The workers, in a suit against a temp agency that placed people in Amazon positions, argued they should be compensated for the time they spent waiting in those lines.
