AmazonToday, at an event in San Francisco, Amazon announced the general availability of AWS Greengrass, the software that powers local edge gateways and appliances. This new addition to the AWS IoT portfolio has the potential to become the cornerstone of Amazon’s hybrid and edge strategy. AWS Greengrass was announced by Andy Jassy at the last re:Invent event in December 2016. The compute layer of Greengrass is delivered through AWS Lambda, the first serverless computing platform introduced a few years ago. Amazon has integrated the management tools of AWS Greengrass with the portal.
