'Alternative' Covid-19 facility could be used in southern New Zealand

Minister of managed isolation and quarantine minister Megan Woods outlines details of Wellington's first Covid-19 case in a border hotel. An “alternative location” may be used as a quarantine facility in Otago and Southland if a person in the area tests positive for Covid-19, health officials say. Dunedin was ruled out as an option for housing returning New Zealanders in quarantine, or managed isolation facilities, in late July. The medical officer would need to discuss alternative scenarios with the director of public health, and each instance would be considered ‘’on a case-by-case basis’’. Five of the cases announced on Tuesday were in the community, while nine were found in managed isolation or quarantine facilities.
