Alphonso Davies named Caps' player of the year

Alphonso Davies was named the Vancouver Whitecaps’ player of the year during Wednesday night’s awards banquet, a few days before the quicksilver winger makes his final appearance in Caps colours. The 17-year-old will make the move to Bayern Munich shortly after the Major League Soccer season ends, completing his landmark transfer to the Bundesliga giant. Davies, who was named to the 2018 MLS All-Star team, set a new single-season record for dribbles (121) while leading the league in duels won (255). It’s the second-highest total in the team’s MLS history, behind only Camilo’s 22-goal campaign in 2013. The Jock MacDonald award is named after one of the 86ers founding members, who was instrumental in bringing professional soccer back to Vancouver.
