James MacDonald/BloombergA major waterfront redevelopment project in Toronto unveiled by Alphabet Inc.’s urban planning initiative includes a vision for a 21st transportation system with on-demand autonomous vehicles, likely to be supplied by fellow Alphabet unit Waymo. “Sidewalk will explore partnerships, including with its sibling company Waymo, to test multiple types of self-driving vehicles on the Eastern Waterfront." Waymo’s technology results from eight years of development by Google’s Self-Driving Car team, and would seem to be an ideal match for the Toronto project. Undoubtedly, the new Toronto project will be optimized for Waymo's AI-guided vehicles to function at their best. “Sidewalk will pilot an internal robot delivery system via its utility channels,” according to the plan.
