Almost 350,000 screening tests were carried out during last year. There are usually about 250,000 cervical screening tests each year. Affected women and their GPs have been contacted by the CervicalCheck cancer screening programme. However, the HSE says it needs to “stabilise” the screening programme by eliminating the backlog before this type of testing can be introduced.
