Around 10,000 EU nationals have quit the NHS since the Brexit referendum, it has emerged. Among those from the EU who left the NHS between June 2016 and June 2017 were 3,885 nurses and 1,794 doctors. “Theresa May must make a bold offer to the EU to ringfence negotiations on citizens’ rights and come to a rapid agreement. We are losing thousands of high-quality nurses and doctors from the NHS, driven partly by this government’s heartless approach to the Brexit talks,” he said. In May the EU offered to guarantee the rights of all EU citizens affected by the UK’s decision to quit the bloc, including the 1.2 million British nationals already settled or retired on the continent.
