The by-election, which is likely to take place next month, will likely see two major opposition parties both fielding candidates. It issued a yellow card against Mr Krungsiwilai but he is still eligible to run again. Mr Sompong expressed confidence that Ms Salinthip, a veteran politician who has continued to work in her constituency since the election defeat, would win the by-election. It is likely to be a three-horse race after Mr Krungsiwilai said he would seek re-election and the MFP expressed interest in also fielding a candidate.
